New England boy dead, 2-year-old brother hospitalized after being left in hot car
WEST HAVEN, CT (WGME) -- A 4-year-old is dead in Connecticut, and his 2-year-old brother is in the hospital after police say they were left in a hot car.
Police say the kids were in the car for an unknown amount of time.
When first responders arrived, the kids were out of the car and in an apartment, but the damage was already done.
Hours later, the 4-year-old died in the hospital.
"Based on the way the call came in, they had breathing issues,” Sgt. Charles Young with the West Haven Police Department said.
"I can't even imagine the kind of pain, no human should have to go through that,” neighbor Matt Dispirito said.
Doctors say even if the 2-year-old survives, he may have lingering brain or kidney problems depending on how long he was in the car.
As for where the parents were, police aren't saying anything about the mother, but the father was the one who called police.
