PORTLAND (WGME) -- Casco Bay's iconic landmark, Fort Gorges, will undergo repairs Monday.
The fort will be closed to the public while the Portland Parks and Recreation Department repairs a stairway leading to the second story roof.
This is part of a hazard mitigation project which aims to fix the fort and make it safe for visitors.
Fort Gorges is expected to reopen to the public Tuesday.
The Army Corps of Engineers will start its portion of the project in the spring -- installing railings and gates for more safety features.
Last summer, CBS 13 & Fox 23 documented the problems at the fort and the difficulties in fixing it in our award-winning special Saving Fort Gorges.
