BUXTON (WGME) -- Police say two dogs were reportedly shot in Buxton on Thursday and now they're looking for whoever may have pulled the trigger.

One of the dogs, Tessa, ran off into the woods but she was found safe this morning according to her family.

It happened on Fifield Drive Thursday afternoon.

Police say they responded to the home around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon for a pit bull bleeding profusely from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The dog, Tyson, was transported to the emergency animal clinic and is doing OK back at home.

The family now says the other dog, Tessa, is at the vet's office, and a x-ray says she has a bullet in her lung, and will be having surgery.

No word yet on who caused these injuries. Police say at this time they don't believe it was the owner.

A GoFundMe page has been started to cover vet bills.
