Train hits vehicle stuck on the tracks in Old Orchard Beach

OLD ORCHARD BEACH (WGME) – A man escaped virtually unharmed, but his truck is demolished after it was hit by a train in Old Orchard Beach.

Police say he jumped out of the vehicle just before the collision.

Old Orchard police say 23-year-old Carson Filiault was backing up out of his driveway, when he says his throttle malfunctioned.

Police say he couldn't stop his Nissan pick-up truck as he reversed through thick brush, right onto the train tracks.

Investigators say Filiault jumped out moments before the Amtrak Downeaster crushed his truck on the tracks.

Filiault is recovering at Southern Maine Medical Center with minor injuries.

No one was hurt on the train, which was stuck in Old Orchard Beach for 90 minutes after losing power in the crash.
