WADE (WGME) - Emergency responders took a 16-year-old driver to the Aroostook Medical Center this morning after the teen crashed head-on into a tree in Wade.

The crash happened around 8:15 AM on New Dunntown Road, according to Maine State Police. Officials say the juvenile driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when the teen lost control and struck a tree.

The impact was so severe that the tree nearly split the car in half.

A neighbor, Damian Languell, heard the crash and ran outside to find the Buick Regal on fire. Languell cut the teenager's seat belt and pulled the juvenile out of the rear window before the fire could spread further.

First responders took the 16-year-old to the Arookstook Medical Center, but the teen was later flown to a larger medical facility.

There's no word on the condition of the driver.
