HOPE (WGME) -- Two men who police believe demanded money and fired a shot through floor of a residence in the Midcoast town of Hope remain at large.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office was called to Crabtree Road in Hope, near Camden, around 4 a.m. Saturday morning, Sheriff Tim Carroll said.

Two men staying at the residence were inside, and police were told two men entered and turned over furniture as they were looking for something.

One of the men inside ran out the back door to call for help to a neighbor. The two men who broke in confronted the other man inside, allegedly holding a gun to him and demanding money before a shot was fire at the floor.

Unable to find or get any money, the pair left quickly. Police said it is believed they drove off in truck parked up the road from the residence.

The person who rents the residence was not home at the time of the incident.

Carroll said the home invasion was target specific and the general public is not threatened.

The two victims are cooperating with the investigation. Evidence was gathered at the scene and Carroll said other potential witnesses and information will be gathered.

Knox County deputies and Camden Police responded to the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Knox County Sheriff's Office at 594-0677.
