BRUNSWICK (WGME) - Midcoast Humane Society is preparing for the holidays with a special event of puppies and kittens.

"We have more than 40 puppies and a dozen kittens ready for adoption, and people can come by today or tomorrow," said Sarah Murray, the Adoption Program Manager for Midcoast Humane Society.

She says dozens of young pets were brought to Maine from shelters that were over-capacity in the South.

She says the event "Home for the Holidays" helps Mainers who want to buy a pet as present can get one that really needs home.

"We've put a lot of effort into bringing them up, driving them from all the way down South, caring for them. So we're really excited to see them go home and get the love that they deserve," said Murray.

She says people have lined up as early as 7 a.m. for the event, despite the fact that doors don't open until noon.

The event will continue Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. in Brunswick.
