Shawn Moody announces run for governor
PORTLAND (WGME) -- The field of candidates in the race for governor is growing.
Tuesday, Shawn Moody became the 21st candidate to run for governor.
Moody is the founder and owner of the Moody Collision Centers in Maine.
In 2010, Moody ran for governor as an Independent.
This time, he is running on the Republican ticket.
Moody says he knows how to tighten the belt on spending.
He also says giving people a handout never helped anybody.
“We've worked for what we have,” Moody said. “You help people aspire. Sometimes giving people something for free, it doesn't stoke their ambition. I know going without can be a pretty good motivator."
Moody says now is a perfect opportunity in Maine for young people to find careers with upward mobility.
Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett released a statement about Moody’s announcement:
"Moody has admitted in his own words that he's 'philosophically aligned' with Paul LePage and by hiring LePage's closest advisors, he's proving that he's no different than every other Republican candidate: hell-bent on running to the extreme right and putting forward the same old failed ideas that haven't helped Maine."
