AUGUSTA (WGME) -- The top candidates in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District are currently neck and neck.

Republican Bruce Poliquin and Democrat Jared Golden are separated by less than 1,000 votes.

The ranked-choice vote count process begins in Augusta Thursday, but it could still be a few more days until a winner for Congressional District 2 is announced.

None of the candidates, Golden, Poliquin, Independent Tiffany Bond, or Independent William Hoar, won with 50 percent of the vote.

Poliquin has a slight lead with 46.1 percent of the votes followed by Golden with 45.9 percent of the votes.

Bond is polling at 5.7 percent and Hoar at 2.4 percent.

Officials from the Secretary of State’s Office will be collecting ballots Thursday and delivering them to Augusta.

The voting tabulation process will begin Friday and continue Saturday and Monday, if needed.

Election officials say results will likely be released sometime next week once the process is over.
