WASHINGTON, D.C. (WGME) -- A Secret Service spokesman tells the CBS 13 I-Team it is now investigating Rep. Scott Hamann (D) after he posted an anti-Trump rant on Facebook.

A Secret Service spokesman confirmed it's investigating the profane Facebook posts but wouldn't comment any further citing the sensitive nature of the investigation and "protective intelligence."

"Trump is a half term president, at most, especially if I ever get within 10 feet of that p***y," Hammann posted earlier this week.

Earlier Friday, Hamann was removed from two legislative committees because of statements he made, suggesting he would harm President Donald Trump if he got close enough.

The Maine Republican Party called the posts "unhinged" and "dangerous."

Hamann apologized for the post on Wednesday in which he also called the president "a joke" and "complete loser."

I regret my impulsive decision to post something aggressively sarcastic and inappropriate in a Facebook exchange with a childhood friend. While the tone of the post was born out of frustration with the vile language currently surrounding politics, I should not have responded with the same language. This is not language I typically use, it does not reflect my personal values, and while misguided, it was intended to make a visceral point about the devolving political discourse in America.
