SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) -- A nine year-old boy is making a difference one bottle at a time, all for kids in need at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital.

Known as "Sam the Bottle Man," Sam Rideout has been collecting returnables over the past two years and donating all of them.

Saturday, Sam was in South Portland continuing his mission. He uses every nickle raised to purchase gifts and toys for kids at the hospital during Christmas.

"I figured I would collect bottles and just make it a bigger thing than just going to buy toys for Toys for Tots," Sam Rideout said. "Then it just went bigger and bigger."

To make this story even more special, Sam spent last January at Barbara Bush Children's Hospital as a patient himself.

So far, he's raised more than $2,000.
