President Donald Trump reportedly wants Governor Paul LePage to run for Senate against Senator Angus King.

The Washington Post reported the president's advisors say Trump plans to call Governor LePage, and urge him to run against Senator King.

The governor recently said he doesn't plan to run.

A political adviser to Governor LePage told CBS13, "The governor made his thoughts known about this topic earlier this year."

The only Republican candidate currently running for that seat is Eric Brakey.

He told CBS 13 in part: "Governor LePage has said on several occasions that he has no plans to run for U.S. Senate and I take him at his word. Together, the governor and I have already endorsed a candidate to replace me in the Maine Senate."
