PORTLAND (WGME) – Some Mainers who oppose Brett Kavanaugh made their voices heard outside of Senator Susan Collins’ Portland office Friday.

The protests took place in Lobsterman Park right across the street from Senator Collins' office.

Through chants and signs, dozens protested the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh outside of Senator Collins’ office.

But when Collins took the floor, the crowd fell silent, with many turning to anger or sadness when Collins announced she would confirm Kavanaugh.

Some say Collins is insulting survivors of sexual assault.

"It's just this feeling of being utterly ignored,” Portland Resident Jenny O’Connell said. “Susan Collins just made a huge choice to ignore her constituents and survivors."

Organizers say that they are still hoping one person’s mind can be changed before Saturday's vote.
