Protect Your Pets - Holiday gift safety
FALMOUTH (WGME) - Pets are part of the family and are often on their owners gift list.
Local pet stores have good advice on the best gift for your pet.
If you have a teething puppy or a small dog, rawhide can be a problem.
"Rawhide is especially hard for them to digest, especially puppies or smaller dogs. Sometimes the bigger dogs are able to do it, but our 'no hide' section and has wonderful alternative to raw hide," Lori Cannell, manager of Pet Quarters in Falmouth said.
If you dog loves plush toys, it's a good idea to buy those from a pet store, and not a toy store.
"Where they don't have removable eyes on it, it does have a thicker seam on it, so if you have a dog that chews a lot, you might want to steer toward something that is more reinforced." Cannell said.
And beware the squeaking toy.
"So you know whenever you buy a toy, you gotta test it, cause you're gonna be hearing it a lot, so you want to make sure you can tolerate that sound," Cannell said.
Tinsel toys can be dangerous for cats, as the tinsel can become wrapped around their intestine if they swallow it.
And if your pet is last on your list - no problem.
Pet Quarters says they'll be open on Christmas Eve.
