Educator Ringelstein declares candidacy for U.S. Senate seat
The 2018 race for U.S. Senate just got a little wider in Maine.
Zak Ringelstein, a Democrat, is running for the seat currently held by independent Senator Angus King.
Ringelstein is a teacher and education business founder. He announced his campaign tonight in Portland.
He says that as a teacher he understands what public service is all about.
"As the son of a social worker who has spent the majority of my career in public schools, I know who real public servants are,” he said.
“My mother-in-law is a twenty-five-year veteran in Rangeley Public Schools who tirelessly and selflessly works with children every day as a public servant."
Ringelstein is joining a handful of candidates, including Republican state senator Eric Brakey.
