PORTLAND (WGME) -- A Portland non-profit helping to make a difference by bringing arts education to schools is now expanding.

"Side-by-Side" recently received a $2.5 million grant.

As part of the grant, the program will expand to Lewiston schools.

Side-by-Side helps connect students with art education they were previously lacking.

"Everybody learns a little differently, so this allows those students who aren’t traditional learners to grasp onto a different way of connecting to their curriculum to what's being taught, it's critical actually," Executive Director Beth Wilbur Van Mierlo said.

"Side-by-Side" currently benefits over 2,000 students and more than 100 teachers in 10 schools.
