BANGOR (WGME) -- Bangor police and HAZMAT teams responded to Senator Susan Collins’ house in Bangor early this afternoon after learning about a suspicious letter that was sent to her address.
Police are not saying what the letter said or contained, but hazmat crews were seen entering the house.
The Senator’s husband is at the house and her spokeswoman confirms that she is on her way.
Senator Collins has been in the national spotlight recently, after her vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Police are not saying if there’s a link to that vote and the contents of the letter, but say they take any threat seriously.
The investigation has been turned over to the U.S. Capitol Police. Depending on what they find, this could constitute a federal crime.
