WALES (WGME) -- Maine State Police say a man was shot and killed early this morning in an armed confrontation with a state trooper in Wales.

Police say they were called to a home on Route 132 Sunday night after a woman was shot at in a domestic violence incident.

She was not hurt.

State Police negotiators and members of the tactical team responded to the home and tried to contact the man for several hours, according to police.

Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, police say there was an armed confrontation and the man was shot and killed by a member of the tactical team.

No police officers were injured.

As is standard in all police involved shootings, the Maine Attorney General's Office is investigating the incident.

The names of the dead man and the trooper will likely be released later in the day Monday.

Route 132 has been closed most of the night and remains closed.

The road is closed from Woods Road to Center Road.
