New toll plaza in York gets green light

YORK (WGME) – A long-awaited toll plaza may finally get the green light.

A Maine court has allowed permits for construction to move ahead.

The superior court ruled in favor of the Maine DEP in issuing permits for the Turnpike Authority.

The end of a long road, for plans of an open road tolling plaza in York.

The plaza project would take place about a mile and a half from the current plaza.

It earned the approval of the EP, but not from the town of York.

A group called Think Again sued the state for issuing permits last fall.

It delayed the project, which has new life with the upholding of the permits by the superior court Friday.

As the MTA calls it a victory for Maine's drivers, one of Think Again's co-chairmen says it’s a loss for the state.

The MTA predicts it will be a three-year, $40 million project.
