Neighbors shocked by suspicious death in Portland
PORTLAND (WGME) -- Portland police have identified a woman, found dead inside her home, and they're calling her death suspicious.
They found her, after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots in Portland's Riverton neighborhood.
Police say they responded to a home on Dorothy Street around 10 Sunday night after neighbors called and reported gun shots.
Police say 36-year-old Sokha Khuon was found dead inside the home.
They say she lived there with her husband and her two kids.
Officials say her kids, who are 10 and 15 years old, were outside of the home when they arrived and they were unharmed.
Right now, investigators are working to determine a cause of death.
Police do say they don’t believe the public is in any danger.
Neighbors who knew the family say they are really nice people and great neighbors.
Those who don’t know the family say they never thought something like this would happen in their neighborhood.
"After sitting, you know watching out the window a little bit longer I saw more and more police cars come up and thought ‘what on earth is going on right outside our house?’” Matt Stinton said. "I would never put this neighborhood in the category of like a troubled neighborhood or anything odd happening like this."
The body is now in Augusta at the medical examiner's office.
Officials say the autopsy may take longer than just today.
This is an ongoing investigation; we'll keep you updated as we gather more information.
