Mother, unborn child killed in Greenwood snowmobile crash

    GREENWOOD (WGME) -- A mother and her unborn child were killed Saturday morning after a snowmobile crash in Greenwood, according to the Maine Warden Service.

    Investigators said 30 year-old Elizabeth Abelson from Gloucester, Massachusetts, was snowmobiling with her husband on a trail near Irish Neighborhood Road around 11:00 a.m. when Abelson lost control of her snowmobile, was ejected and struck trees.

    According to the Warden Service, both Abelson and her unborn child, due in early March, were pronounced dead at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

    Abelson was wearing a helmet.

    Game wardens are working with the State Medical Examiner’s Office and are continuing their investigation into this fatal crash.
