Man suffers life-threatening injuries following kidnapping, assault in Sanford; 3 charged
SANFORD (WGME) – Three people are accused of kidnapping a 28-year-old man in Sanford and assaulting him.
Police say the man was lured to an abandoned apartment in Sanford by an acquaintance on January 11.
After the victim and the acquaintance arrived at the apartment, police say 25-year-old Shantel Rodriguez, 26-year-old Dylan Austin, and 22-year-old Cody Boudreau held the victim against his will for a period of hours.
Police say the victim was forced to make phone calls to procure a large sum of money to secure his release.
During his captivity, the victim was beaten and feared for his life, according to police.
Police say the victim tried to escape and was tackled and then stabbed with a knife.
A neighbor called Sanford Police and reported that a man was outside lying on a snowbank and appeared to have been assaulted.
He suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to police.
Last Thursday, the Sanford Police Department obtained three arrest warrants for Rodriguez, Austin, and Cody, all residents of Sanford.
A deputy from York County Sheriff’s Office encountered Austin during a traffic stop in Acton on Thursday.
Sanford Police say they found Rodriguez on Riverside Avenue in Sanford on Friday and Boudreau turned himself in to the York County Jail on Saturday.
They were all charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.
Bail was set at $10,000 cash for all three suspects.
