Man assaults girlfriend, crashes car twice while fleeing

YORK (WGME) -- York police say a man who assaulted his girlfriend on Saturday fled the scene in her car, only to crash the car twice and flee on foot.

Police responded the Microtel in York around 9:10 p.m. for a reports of criminal threatening, where they met a woman who had been threatened and assaulted by her boyfriend.

While they were interviewing the woman, police received a string of reports for car accidents along Spur Road and Route 95 southbound.

The woman's boyfriend had fled the scene of the assault in his girlfriend's car just before police arrived, only to hit several cars while speeding. He struck a car and a guardrail on the Spur Road in York and fled from the crash scene. Then, still speeding, he collided with another car just south of York River Bridge and lost control of the car, crashing into a gully.

The man fled the second crash scene on foot.

Maine State Police attempted unsuccessfully to catch the man with K-9.

The other driver from the Route 95 crash went to York Hospital with minor injuries.

York police are investigating the Microtel assault and the Spur Road crash. Maine State Police are handling the Route 95 crash.

Police say the suspect's identity will be released when he is arrested.
