Maine's summer weather rollercoaster: A recap of July, peek into August

PORTLAND (WGME) --- This summer has been unforgettable for Mainers.

Vacationland has experienced a variety of weather conditions, from rainy weekends to cooler temperatures.

Here is your official July Weather Rewind.

The maximum temperature for July was 89 degrees. In 2017, the maximum temperature for July was 88 degrees, which was the last time it was below 90 degrees.

Thanks to July, the record for the longest consecutive days with a minimum temperature above 60 degrees was broken at 32 days.

Since July 1, the Portland Jetport received 5.75 inches of rain. That is 2.32 inches of rain more than the normal 3.43 inches of rain.

July saw rainfall exceeding 5 inches throughout most of the region.

LOOKING FORWARD

It seems that August will be a pleasant month for residents of Maine. The average high for August 1 is typically 80 degrees and 76 degrees for August 31.

On August 1, the maximum temperature recorded at the Portland Jetport was 74 degrees and the low was 54 degrees.

The average precipitation for Portland is 3.57 inches of rain.

The cool temperature trend is forecasted to continue. It appears that temperatures are within the normal range, although some areas may experience below-normal temperatures.

Regarding the expected rainfall rates in August, it is unfortunate that most parts of Maine are likely to experience above-average precipitation.

What Mainers should expect from the back-to-school month is below-average temperatures and a wetter month.
