KENNEBUNK (WGME) -- Mainers got a chance to say a final goodbye to former President George H.W. Bush Sunday.

In what many call his second home, people flocked to Gooch's beach in Kennebunk where the Bush family holds a lot of history.

Just in April, many gathered for his wife Barbara. And today dozens reminisced - sharing stories of how they met the charming couple.

So many saluted his grace and commitment by loading bins with gifts for veterans at the Togus VA hospital, all while admiring his loyalty to loved ones.

There were many mellow memories but even more unforgettable moments.

As many in Maine say, their local hero, 41, may be gone but never forgotten.
