Maine DOT asks for patience while they work on Woodford's Corner

PORTLAND (WGME) – Major changes are coming to Woodford's Corner in Portland.

Construction will soon begin on the busy intersection with the hopes of making the traffic trouble area more manageable.

This project will greatly affect traffic in this area, the Department of Transportation estimates about 27,000 vehicles go through this intersection every single day, and so they are urging drivers find an alternate route during this project.

This $5.6 million project has been in the works for quite some time and construction will begin on Monday.

The Department of Transportation says the goal of the project is to ease the traffic congestion in the area as well as make it safer.

The project will include utility work, a new roadway, new traffic signals, sidewalk and lighting improvements and bike lanes.

The department is asking the public for patience as they begin construction.

The project is expected to take about a year to complete.
