Traveling dog wash boosts local animal shelter

A cross country dog wash effort stopped in Saco Friday, with proceeds going to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

SACO (WGME) -- A national effort benefiting a local animal shelter stopped in Saco Friday with a simple mission - to wash a few dogs.

Dogs from all around showed up for Bathe to Save, a traveling dog wash whose proceeds will be going to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

The Australian family running the show is on an 18-month trek across American, with a mission to wash as many dogs as possible.

"And I think with our common cause .. and being from Austrailia ... it adds a little bit of excitement to the mix ... when we get out there and show them what our mission is ... people love it and they want to get behind it ... its been a huge success and I think the American people .. we just love you guys to death .. there's just something magical about the relationship. It's been a wonderful experience," Anthony Amos said.

The family uses a 40-foot tour bus to transport their wash, affectionately calling it Bubbles.

Today's event was hosted by Patriot Subaru in Saco.
