Local corrections officer arrested on felony drug charges
PORTLAND (WGME) – A local corrections officer has been arrested on felony drug charges.
South Portland police were informed about the drug activity Tuesday and immediately took action with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Kevin Joyce says it was clear the young man was "living two lives."
Twenty-two-year-old Davis Glazener was arrested and charged with trafficking illegal drugs.
Sheriff Joyce says they found cocaine at his home in South Portland.
Joyce mentioned that Glazener was a fairly new employee and had only worked with the county for two years.
Right now, officials are unsure if any drug activity occurred within the jail.
Joyce says Glazener had no criminal history, and they have strict hiring standards, Cumberland County is one of few departments that conducts polygraphs and background checks for potential officers,
“This is a case where you always scratch your head, say, ‘What else could we have done to keep the individual out of this profession that could have, or actually did what this individual did,’” Joyce said. “And the answer is I don’t have an answer. Some people just when you do a polygraph or background track, they don’t have the propensity and then somehow that train leaves the tracks.”
The sheriff's office will do an internal investigation after the criminal investigation is completed. Glazener is on administrative leave without pay.
