LEWISTON (WGME) -- Lewiston families in need went Christmas shopping for free at the Hope House Wednesday.
The Hope House is a non-profit organization that provides people of all backgrounds support with food, clothing, or education.
During the holiday season, they let families come through the building and pick out both fun and essential items for their kids.
Organizers say it is inspirational to see how far the event has come over the course of three decades, and they can't wait to see where it goes in the future.
"We do have the greatest poverty of Maine in this area, I believe, and so many kids are struggling for the basics to survive and so their parents are here desperate. We used to just give out toys and now we give out food, clothing, warming outer wear,” Jan Willson, Hope House co-founder, said.
Willson also says they wouldn't be able to hand out the amount of toys they do if they didn't have so many people donating.
