NORWAY (WGME) – Investigators are trying to figure out what started a deadly fire in the town of Norway.

The smell of fire is still in the air. Neighbors describe the flames as being enormous, and there's significant damage to the home.

Fire officials say they got the call around 7:30 Sunday morning.

Eleven departments responded to the call. Officials say they tried to enter in the front door, but a treadmill was blocking access.

Once inside, fire officials found 68-year-old Steven McAllister dead, lying on the living room floor.

Three fire marshal investigators responded to the scene; right now they're working to determine the cause.

A woman who claims to be his niece says McAllister lived alone and enjoyed race cars.

His body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause of death.
