IDEXX breaks ground on new facility
WESTBROOK (WGME) --One of the state's largest employers broke ground on a multi-million-dollar expansion Friday.
IDEXX is building a brand new 135,000 square foot building on its Westbrook campus.
It's expected to bring up to 600 jobs to the area.
Several people met at the site Friday, including Governor Paul LePage, Westbrook's mayor, and speaker of the Maine House Sara Gideon for the ceremonial ground breaking.
To say the expansion is great news for the company and the state would be an understatement.
“It's very gratifying. We serve a great industry of pet owners and vet care, pet care. Fortunately, with our growth we're able to provide an expanding employee base right here in the State of Maine and help support out state economy,” Jon Ayers, IDEXX, said.
Adoptable dogs from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland were at Friday’s ground breaking to show support for the company, which specializes in pet healthcare innovation.
The new building is expected to be completed in late 2019.
