MILTON, NH (WGME/AP) -- Police say a hunter entering the woods in Milton, New Hampshire was shot at, and they are investigating.

Milton Police Chief Richard Krauss says the hunter wasn't hurt Sunday afternoon.

The hunter reported that the shooter fired approximately five bullets at him and when he yelled at the shooter, the person fired another round and it struck a tree near him.

Residents on Mason Road were told to stay inside with their doors locked, but that order was lifted by Sunday night.

Krauss says information given to police led them to believe the shooter was inside a house, but no one was found inside.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Milton Police Department at (603) 652-4500.
