WELD (WGME) -- Maine State Police say a 19-year-old boy was killed and two Dirigo High School students were hurt late Thursday night in a crash in Weld.

The crash happened on West Side Road around 11:30 p.m.

Troopers say 19-year-old Griffyn Smith, of Dixfield, was killed when the 2005 Toyota Corolla he was in went off the road, struck a tree, and overturned.

Smith was one of two passengers in the car, driven by 18-year-old Ethyn Buotte, of Dixfield, according to troopers.

Buotte and his other passenger, a 17-year-old girl whose name has not been released, are being treated for non-life threatening injuries at a Rumford hospital.

Troopers say speed appears to be a likely cause. The crash investigation is ongoing.

CORRECTION: Maine State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland incorrectly stated that Griffyn Smith was a current student at Dirigo High School, but he graduated two years ago. The article has been updated.
