GREENE, Maine (WGME) – Police have charged a man from Greene with animal cruelty after he allegedly killed two cats by choking them.

Michael Herrmann, 47, is out on bail.

According to the Lewiston-Auburn Sun Journal, a neighbor dropped off the cats at Herrmann's house.

Police say Herrmann took the animals to a snowmobile trail to euthanize them.

They say he then left the bodies in their carriers in the woods.

According to an affidavit, Herrmann stated that with his knowledge of martial arts, he knew how to choke things out.

He also told authorities he didn't have time to take the cats to a shelter, where he felt they would be killed anyway.
