AUGUSTA (WGME) -- Gov. Janet mills moves forward on her plan to create a new state Office of Innovation and the Future.
Today, the governor appointed former house speaker Hannah Pingree to lead the state's Office of Policy Management which will develop the framework for that new office.
The governor wants the Office of Innovation and the Future to take on several big challenges facing Maine including health care costs, climate and energy, broadband expansion, and the opioid crisis.
"I'm asking all of state government to take the long view to engage strategic planning to engage in long term research and to tap into federal funds wherever appropriate and always look to the future," said Governor Mills.
Hannah Pingree says she hopes to help build a brighter future for all our kids by coming up with new ideas and long-term solutions to the challenges facing Maine.
