Exhibit honors female heroes of the Holocaust
PORTLAND (WGME) – They are some of the unsung heroes of the Holocaust.
Woman who made a difference in the face of unspeakable horror.
This exhibit, "Holocaust Heroes, Fierce Females" opened Tuesday at the Maine Jewish Museum in Portland.
New York artist Linda Stein says she hopes by sharing her sculptural tapestries, people will be inspired to become "upstanders," not "bystanders."
Just like all of the women depicted in these works of art.
"There was a woman who was called the spy princess, Noor Inayat Khan, who could have lived her life out in luxury," Stein said. "She became a radio operator and she died at 30 after saving many, many lives.”
The exhibit runs through Nov. 5.
