Deep freeze causes drinking wells to ice over
SABBATUS (WGME) – Heating fuel is not the only issue Mainers are facing right now.
Drinking wells are icing over, because of the recent deep freeze.
The warm weather is certainly a step in the right direction.
The owner of Sunco Pump and Well Drilling says they fielded fewer calls Thursday, but say the demand is still about three times above average for this time of year.
Typically, the calls are related to running out of water, but after the 20-below start to 2018, Sunco's nine employees have been working long hours to thaw out wells.
One technician says he's been averaging 6-day work weeks and 13-hour days, but there are still customers waiting for relief.
Right now, the wait time is about 2-3 days for clients, depending on the situation, of course.
