Cold weather shelter opening in Dover, NH

    Strafford County officials opened a cold weather shelter Saturday afternoon in Dover, NH due to the wind chills and low temperature.

    DOVER, NH (WGME) -- Saturday's cold weather combined with a chilling wind has prompted Strafford County to open a cold weather shelter.

    According to Dover Police, the county commissioners made the decision to open the shelter at 276 County Farm Road, next to Southeastern NH Services.

    The shelter opens at 2 p.m. and will remain open until Monday morning at 9 a.m "to ensure any unsheltered county residents are safe from the extreme life-threatening cold."

    A shuttle was set up to take people to the shelter on an hourly basis starting at 3 p.m. through 7 p.m. and will be available as needed on Sunday.

    Social service agencies and municipalities are being encouraged to provide transportation to the shelter.
