Auburn family says daughter found marijuana in Halloween candy
AUBURN (WGME) -- An Auburn family says their daughter discovered marijuana in her Halloween candy.
For one Auburn teen, Wednesday night was just like any other Halloween, filled with trick or treating. However, when she got home, she discovered something inside her bag that was not candy.
Police believe it was a small bag of marijuana.
Steve Gagne's 13-year-old daughter was trick or treating near Auburn Middle School Wednesday night with her friends.
She says it was a normal night, but the drug discovery shocked Gagne.
"She brought it to us,” Gagne said. “If it was hers and she wanted to keep it she easily could've and we would have never known."
Gagne is confident it was not hers and that someone must have placed it in her bag.
"At first we were kind of skeptical, you know,” Gagne said. “But talking to her, she was very forthcoming with the whole thing.”
Auburn police say finding pot in a candy bag is very unusual.
Gagne filed a police report and reminds parents to always check what your child brings home.
"You gotta be diligent these days,” Gagne said. “You never know what people are going to do. It's a crazy world."
The Auburn Police Department is investigating this incident. If you know anything about it, you are encouraged to call them.
