ROCKLAND (WGME) -- Five departments respond to an apartment fire in Rockland.

The fire chief says they got the call around 6:30 p.m. Monday to the apartment building at 175 Rankin Street.

He says the two people who live there got out safely and so did five others in nearby apartments.

Crews from Rockland, Rockport, Camden, Thomaston, and South Thomaston all worked to put out the flames.

The chief says they were able to keep fire damage to one apartment.

The other apartments have smoke and water damage.

The chief says most of the tenants are staying with friends and family.
