$1.35 million in Mega Millions tickets sold in Maine Friday

More than $1.35 million in Mega Millions tickers were sold on Friday before no winner was drawn for the $1 billion jackpot. Tuesday's draw could top $1.6 billion.

AUGUSTA (WGME) -- Friday was a busy day for anyone selling lottery tickets in Maine as $1.35 million in Mega Millions tickets were sold in one day.

According to the Maine State Lottery, almost $2 million in tickets were sold between the previous drawing and Friday night's $1 billion drawing.

But once again, there was no winner drawn. This Tuesday's drawing may top $1.6 million, and businesses with lottery machines will once again by very busy.

The most tickets were sold in southern Maine at Broadway Variety in South Portland, Cumberland Farms on Washington Avenue in South Portland, Hannaford in Scarborough, Oak Hill Citgo Gas in Scarborough and Shaw's in Falmouth.

Some people did win money, including a $20,000 ticket sold at the Cumberland Farms on Payne Road in Scarborough.

A total of 34.212 in winning tickets were sold for $200,588.

While Friday was busy, it was not the busiest in Maine history. On Jan. 13,2016, $2.1 million in lottery tickets were sold.

Not surprising, thanks to the $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot up for grabs. For now, it is the highest jackpot in Maine lottery history.

Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing will be Tuesday at 10:59 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased until 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
