$100 million rare map collection donated to USM
PORTLAND (WGME) -- A rare map collection estimated at $100 million was donated to University of Southern Maine’s cartography library on Friday.
The Osher family donated their private collection to expand the Osher Map Library.It includes 450,000 maps and historic artifacts dating back to 1475.
USM President Glenn Cummings says the gift is the largest in the school's history as well as the entire University of Maine system.
Cummings and the Osher family say their goal is to have people of all ages and educations see these maps and learn their stories.
