Father's dying wish to see Bruce Springsteen with daughter comes true
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) - A father's final wish was fulfilled on Saturday after getting to see "The Boss" in concert with his daughter.
Grace Granata and her dad, Joe, enjoyed their 10th, and likely last, Bruce Springsteen concert at the Blue Cross Arena.
Granata says she used to joke that she would be wheeling him to Springsteen concerts when he was in his 90's. But at 62, she's bringing her father to see The Boss in a wheelchair because of a terminal brain cancer diagnosis three days after Christmas.
"This has taught us to take each day as it comes," said Granata.
With a daunting prognosis, Joe's final wish was to see Bruce one last time with his daughter at his side.
"He has been a big influence in everybody's lives, and we're very grateful for that," said Granata. "The best part is that I get to share it with my dad."
Blue Cross Arena donated the two front row tickets.
"That's just the kind of impact this guy has. Obviously they grew up on music that the father played every morning. They opened up the day to Bruce Springsteen and now that he's at the part of his life, it may be his last show, I couldn't resist. She had to be here and he had to be here to do it," said Jeff Calkins, general manager at the Blue Cross Arena.
"It's hands down the best day," said Granata.
Granata says her and her father are leaning on their faith to get them through their battle with cancer.
