WESTBROOK (WGME) -- Plans are in the works for high-end homes on a former golf course in Westbrook.
"It's pretty special to have this much land undeveloped, right in the heart of the Greater Portland area," says Rob Edgerley at Maine Life Real Estate Co.
The former Twin Falls Golf Club could become Twin Falls Landing housing development.
"We're trying to keep all the ambiance that was here, the terrain that is here, without disturbing that and just keep the natural look of the golf course and just placing the homes with the same contours," says Dave Gray, President of Gray's General Contracting.
Edgerley says there will be 36 lots on land ranging from half an acre to an acre. If the plan is approved, the custom-built homes would range from 1,800 to 3,000 square feet and start at $550,000. Buyers would work directly with the builder.
"We want them to be able to have their choice of what they want inside the home, from central air to central vac, to hardwood floors, custom kitchen," says Gray.
Edgerley says while the price tag may be higher for Westbrook, he thinks the location will appeal to buyers.
"We're minutes to downtown Portland, we're near Unum, the Maine Mall, downtown Westbrook is just a minute away," says Edgerley.
"The property is very unique," adds Gray, "You won't find another one in the Westbrook/Portland community."
The proposal also calls for four commercial lots. Nothing has been built yet, it's still in the planning process.
