South Berwick man cleared to go home after battling COVID-19

SOUTH BERWICK (WGME) -- A South Berwick man who has been in the hospital battling COVID-19 for the last several weeks has been cleared to go home. 

58-year-old Pete Jardine was released from Maine Medical Center with his family standing by to cheer him on. 

Jardine was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 27th and has been fighting for his life in the hospital. 

His health slowly started to improve and today he was able to leave the hospital and see his family in person for the first time in almost a month. 

COVID-19 cases in Maine jump to 867, with two new deaths pushing total to 34

He was escorted home by the South Berwick Police Department and dozens of people drove by to honk and wish Jardine well. 

He will continue quarantining at home and doing daily physical therapy. 

He wants to thank his wife, daughters, community and staff of Maine Medical Center for all the help. support and car during this time.
