PORTLAND (WGME) -- Senator Susan Collins is among a group of senators trying to make abortion rights federal law.

They've introduced a bill that would enact into federal law the essential holdings of Roe v. Wade and similar cases.

The law would protect abortion rights on the federal level as well contraception access.

While it has bipartisan support, the bill would need at least 60 votes to clear a procedural vote and go to a full vote.
