Teen dies in Waldoboro truck accident

WALDOBORO (WGME) - Police say one of the two boys injured in the Waldoboro truck accident has died.

The accident occurred around 8:20 p.m. Friday in the area of 603 Union Road, or Route 235, in Waldoboro. Police say the two boys were on bicycles and were hit by a box truck.

Joseph Benedix, 24, of Waldoboro was driving south as two boys were talking to pedestrians on the side of the road. Benedix told police he did not see the two boys.

The truck struck 15-year-old Tyler Wood who was thrown from his bike and landed on the shoulder of the road. Police believe a 14-year-old boy was struck by the other boy's bicycle.

Wood, who suffered serious head injuries, died at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The 14-year-old boy suffered a leg injury and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The pedestrians were not injured. The boys were not wearing helmets.
