Bath church for sale and the food pantry searches for a new home

BATH (WGME) -- A Bath church is going up for sale, looking for a smaller home but that also means a food pantry, will need a new home too.

The Neighborhood United Church of Christ is listed for sale for $695,000.

The 20,000 square foot facility can seat 450 people in the sanctuary but only about 50 or 60 people come on any given Sunday.

Church leaders hope to downsize to a more manageable space in downtown Bath and the food pantry hopes to find a new home too and soon.

Kimberly Gates, Director of Bath Area Food Bank, says: "We are looking to move by November first. We have until the end of November but we really would like not to be moving during the holidays."

That food pantry helps to feed hundreds of families in the mid-coast area, getting virtually rent-free space from the church for nearly 20 years.

They're hoping to find a space that can accommodate the pantry, and an associated soup kitchen.
