Cracks in a Casco dam
CASCO (WGME) -- Cracks in a Casco dam are causing it to leak.
It's not clear if there's money to fix it. The Pleasant Lake Dam is jointly owned by the towns of Casco and Otisfield. Both towns say they aren't sure if they have the funds in the budget to make the necessary repairs.
Casco's Town Manager Dave Morton says some of the cracks are letting a significant amount of water through but their biggest concern is that gravel is making its way through, which could create even more problems.
Morton says: "Where the leakage is, there's gravel flushing through and that would indicate that it is possibly undermining the structure and that's really what peaked our immediate concern and caused us to investigate."
Town leaders say they're not sure how much it will cost to fix the dam. They say they've hired an evaluator to review the dam for further recommendations.
