Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donations
WESTBROOK (WGME) -- The Red Cross is in critical need for donations and looking is for help.
The Red Cross is experiencing a shortage and is in urgent need of blood.
The Cinemagic in Westbrook is hosting a marathon blood drive Friday and Saturday to help the Red Cross.
The summer is traditionally a very slow time for blood donations and last month the Red Cross went into an urgent appeals mode, meaning donations are not where they need to be for this time of year.
Right now, across the country, collections are down about 8%.
Volunteers say Mainers have come through before and they're counting on it again this weekend.
Donations are happening Friday until 10 and then again Saturday from 7 to 5.
The donation process takes about an hour to complete.
Every blood donation saves three lives.
